Covestro will announce the new Baycusan® eco line of biobased polyurethane film formers at the in-cosmetics global trade fair from April 17-19, 2018, in Amsterdam. The products are equally suitable for hair care, skin and sun care and color cosmetics formulations.

More and more cosmetics manufacturers want to promote the health and well-being of their customers while keeping the impact on the environment as low as possible. Covestro fully supports this commitment as part of its comprehensive sustainability approach. At the in-cosmetics global trade fair from April 17 to 19, 2018 in Amsterdam, the company will announce the new Baycusan® eco line of polyurethane film formers, which is based on renewable raw materials.

With sustainable developments like this, Covestro wants to improve people's living conditions, benefit society, and at the same time protect the environment. An important focus is the company's commitment to achieving the UN goals for sustainable development (SDGs). By introducing biobased materials in its cosmetic ingredients portfolio, Covestro is committed to good health and well-being (SDG number 3) and responsible production and consumption (SDG number 12).

Versatile raw material for cosmetics
Baycusan® eco line sets the minimum of the carbon content coming from plant biomass at 50 percent, thus fulfilling the definition of a derived natural ingredient according to ISO 16128-1 standard. The new line of film formers is just as high-performing as conventional products. It is also very versatile because it is equally suitable for hair care, skin and sun care and color cosmetics formulations.

At in-cosmetics global, in addition to its booth no. E100, Covestro will use the interactive platform "Sustainability Corner" to inform visitors and exhibitors about its sustainability initiatives and its specific approach for the cosmetics industry. Focus will be given on both renewable raw materials and product end-of-life, e.g. biodegradability. Baycusan® standard products reach biodegradability rates of up to 60 percent within 28 days under OECD 301-B test conditions.
